The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

CEFR  is an internationally recognized framework developed by the Council of Europe for describing and assessing English language proficiency through standardized proficiency levels.

CEFR describes what individuals can effectively do with English in real working situations. It supports employers in matching language proficiency to specific aviation roles by providing clear, job-relevant benchmarks for recruitment, training, and promotion, thereby ensuring that aviation personnel possess the language skills required to perform their duties safely and effectively in an international environment.

CEFR examination results are classified into six proficiency levels: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2.

Key CEFR Levels (A1-C2):

A1-A2 (Basic User) : Capable of understanding and using everyday expressions and basic phrases.

B1-B2 (Independent User): Can understand main points, interact in familiar contexts, and produce simple, connected text.

C1-C2 (Proficient User): Proficient, flexible, and accurate in using the language for complex, academic, or professional purposes.

This CEFR test is a computer-based adaptive assessment consisting of two sections: a reading skills test with 30 questions and a listening skills test with 15 questions, for a total of 45 questions. Candidates are given 60 minutes to complete the assessment.
